Since 2008, the Rainbow Chamber Foundation has awarded 22 scholarships to LGBTQA and LGBTQA-supportive students. The Foundation has awarded between two and six scholarships of varying sizes each year to students enrolled or planning to enroll in local community college, university or vocational education programs. This year, the Foundation plans to award four scholarships plus a new STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) scholarship funded by the Chamber’s corporate partner, SMUD. Each of the 2014 scholarships will be for $1,000. All scholarships are funded through individual or corporate donations and fund-raising events.
The application criteria for the scholarships are:
*Applicants must reside in or plan to attend a university, college, or school in one of the following counties: Amador, Calaveras, Colusa, El Dorado, Nevada, Placer, Plumas, Sacramento, San Joaquin, Sierra, Solano, Stanislaus, Sutter, Tuolumne, Yolo, and Yuba.
*The applicant must be enrolled in the 12th grade of high school or in a university or college, or a qualified vocational school, or intend to be so enrolled in September 2014.
