A Writer’s Prayer

I was reading the opening of the Gospel of John this morning and realized for the first time that the opening lines should be a prayer for writers like myself:

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God…and the Life was the Light of men.  And the Light shines in the darkness…

The Gospel then goes on to talk about the Light shining in the darkness.  I realized that this is what I find so appealing about the writing I do here and in my stories and plays.  I want to bring a light to the world that is often lost in darkness and does not see.  This, I believe, is the purpose of a writer and something we all share in common.
