Celebrate National Pi Day March 14th

Pi Day is an annual celebration commemorating the mathematical constant π (pi). Pi Day is observed on March 14 (or 3/14 in the month/day date format), since 3, 1, and 4 are the first three significant digits of π in decimal form.  A sequential time will occur on 3/14/15 at 9:26:53 a.m. following the sequence of pi so that makes this year’s celebration especially special!

How should you celebrate?  Have a piece of your favorite pie—strawberry, cherry, pumpkin, etc.  For you Three Stooges fans, celebrate by tossing cream pies at your friends and families.  If you live in rural areas, especially Wisconsin, get your neighbors together for a cow pie throwing contest.  For you bookworms, read a book, The Life of Pi perhaps.  Wrestling fans, watch videos of Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson in action in the ring or in one of his many movie roles.

And, of course, mathematicians, spend the day computing π to the last digit.

Happy Pi Day to everyone!
